Pilen
Pilens are striking, sturdy, superbly made bikes from Sweden. While their elegant yet charming looks inevitably draw the most comment, their sweet ride qualities are more decisive in test rides. Especially popular among taller, heavier riders, Pilen (“the Arrow” in Swedish; we say PEE-luhn), are a little lighter and simpler than our nearest WorkCycles selections, but still very respectable as transport bikes, whether for passengers, groceries, or more.
We stock what we call the Pilen Lyx Portlandia, where Portlandia designates a collection of features not found in Lyx models available (yet?) from other dealers. These features include:
- 8-speed Shimano Nexus gearing
- Hand-operated Shimano Roller (drum) brakes (no coaster!)
- Schwalbe Big Apple tires
- B+M Lyt Senso Plus LED headlamp mounted on fork blade for front rack/basket clearance
- AXA Defender ring lock accepts plug-in chain
