Brompton Expert Pro-Build

Your Brompton, Perfected

You're buying one of the finest folding bikes in the world. We make sure it arrives that way.

Factory-assembled bikes are built to spec—but "spec" doesn't mean perfect. It means acceptable. Components shift in transit. Wheels lose tension. Brakes rub. Gears skip. We've opened boxes from Brompton and found bikes that never should have shipped.

We've been building Bromptons for almost 20 years. We know what to look for—and we know what it takes to get one right.

Select our Expert Pro-Build at when adding your Brompton to your cart and we'll inspect the frame for defects, true the wheels, dial in the brakes and gears, torque every fastener, install your accessories, test ride it, and have a second mechanic verify our work. It's a $150 service. It's free. You've already decided you want the best folding bike on the planet. Don't let the last mile undo it. Customers fly across the country to pickup their Bromptons from us. This is why. Select Expert Pro-Build at checkout. Ride the bike you paid for.

Pickup: Your bike is ready to ride the moment you arrive.
Shipping: We repack every bike with added protection—your Brompton arrives perfect. Just install the saddle (30 seconds) and ride.

Two Steps. Zero Compromises.

Step 1: Inspection

Before any work begins, every Brompton is inspected for factory defects and shipping damage. Most pass—but when something slips through, we find it. We've caught missed brazing, poor welds, cosmetic issues, and components that never should have left London. It's 5,000 miles from the factory to Portland. Things happen.

If a bike doesn't meet our standards, we replace it or swap the affected parts before moving forward. You'll never know there was a problem—because we handled it.

Step 2: Expert Pro-Build

Once a bike passes inspection, our certified technicians get to work. Even well-made bikes leave the factory with small issues – It's just the reality of mass production. Our mechanics find and correct:

  • Wheels that need truing or tensioning
  • Brakes that rub or need centering
  • Gears that skip or hesitate
  • Fasteners that need proper torque
  • Headsets or hubs that need adjustment

Then we install any accessories you ordered. Then we test ride it. Then a second mechanic checks our work. Your bike arrives dialed—not just assembled.

Why Buy Your Brompton From Clever Cycles?

Buy direct from Brompton or a typical retailer and you get exactly what leaves the factory: a bike that's assembled, but not optimized. Components may need adjustment. The trip from London isn't always kind. Accessories arrive in the box, not on the bike.

Every Brompton from Clever Cycles includes Expert Pro-Build. We inspect, adjust, test ride, and verify before it reaches you—whether you pick it up or we ship it across the country.

Brompton Pro-Build FAQ

Yes. Pro Builds may add up to five business days before your bike ships, depending on shop workload. We believe a properly prepared bike is worth the wait. Need it in a hurry and want our Pro-Build? Check out our Bro-Build.

Yes. Every Brompton purchased from Clever Cycles—online or in-store, pickup or shipped—includes Expert Pro-Build at no charge. The $150 value reflects what we charge when someone brings in a Brompton purchased elsewhere for the same service.

Absolutely. Add racks, lights, fenders, bags, or any other accessories at checkout. We install them as part of your Expert Pro-Build so everything arrives ready to ride—no assembly required.

Almost completely. For shipping the saddle needs to be removed. Installation takes 30 seconds with the included quick-release clamp—no tools required. Everything else is professionally assembled, adjusted, and ready to ride.

Buying direct from Brompton sometimes means faster delivery but zero quality inspection, no fine-tuning, and no local support. Dealers vary widely in their preparation standards. At Clever Cycles, every Brompton is inspected, expertly adjusted, test-ridden, double-checked, and backed by Brompton's most experienced Brompton service team—at no extra cost.

Full Brompton manufacturer's warranty plus service from mechanics who built your bike. Unlike buying online from big box or online-only retailers, you have a real shop with real experts who know your bike and can handle warranty claims, service questions, and future upgrades efficiently.

Yes. If you purchased a Brompton from another source, we offer Expert Pro-Build as a standalone service for $150. We will inspect the bikes, but any factory issues or shipping damage will need to be dealt with directly with the place of purchase.  Schedule a service appointment or call our Service Manager, Aaron Olson, at (503) 334-1560.
