Clever Cares | Volunteer With Us
Clever Cares is a new initiative from Clever Cycles offering free bicycle pickup, delivery, and essential repairs to Portlanders who rely on their bikes but face barriers to service—whether financial, physical, or logistical.
We believe bicycles are transportation, not luxury. But getting a bike repaired isn’t always easy—especially if you can’t get it to the shop. That’s where you come in.
We're Building a Volunteer Network
When a bike breaks down, it's more than just a mechanical issue—it can be a missed job interview, a skipped class, or a day without groceries. Many Portlanders rely on their bikes not for fun, but for freedom. And when they can't bring their bike to us, we want to bring Clever Cycles to them.
That’s why we’re building a network of volunteers to help us transport bikes to and from our shop using our covered wagon trailer—or your own cargo bike, trailer, or vehicle. No experience necessary—just a willingness to help someone keep rolling.
Whether you’ve got an hour a week or an afternoon a month, your time can make a tangible difference in someone’s day-to-day life. It’s simple, direct, and incredibly appreciated.
How the Program Is Funded
Clever Cares is made possible by a simple idea: when one person buys a bike or gets theirs serviced, they can help someone else ride, too.
During the checkout process, Clever Cycles customers will be invited to pay it forward by adding a small donation—$5, $10, $25, or more—to support essential bike repairs for neighbors who need a hand.
Clever Cycles will match these donations in labor credit 1:1 up to a monthly cap. 
We’ll also be adding a Donate button to this page for anyone who wants to contribute directly. All funds go toward parts, labor, and transportation for Clever Cares recipients—nothing else.
As the program grows, we’ll maintain a public-facing fund tracker so our community can see how much has been raised and how many bikes have been repaired through Clever Cares.

We're still working out the logistics, but eventually you'll be able to sign up for delivery shifts via an online calendar. In the meantime, we’d love to know if you’re interested in being part of it.
