I've brought my bike in three different times for different services and repairs and the staff have been nothing but helpful. They thoroughly explained the issues to me, as well as how to avoid them in the future, and I've never felt talked down to - they really want to help you out. On my last visit, Aaron went above and beyond, performing extra maintenances just because they needed to be done, and was incredibly helpful and friendly - I've never felt so welcome at a bike shop before coming here! Very fair repair prices, too!

I think they stock the right bikes they do good service, and they make the experience of bike shopping and servicing approachable. Most recently, we bought an Urban Arrow, and there were a number of complications (we wanted the belt drive, but they had assembled the chain version we made a prior deposit, but that didn’t come up when they rang us up for the bike; we needed to bike the bike 8 miles home with two kids in tow and they gave us a bike with a battery charged to 20%), BUT I know those mistakes happen everywhere at every store and always appreciate the graciousness with which Clever Cycles fields my requests. We’ve bought and serviced bikes with Clever for many years and wouldn’t shop anywhere else.

I'm so thankful I stopped by! I came in thinking I'd schedule a time for service on my bike but Eva fixed my bike right then and there! They were close to closing so I didn't expect them to even get a a chance to look at the problem. Everyone was we're super helpful and Eva explained what was going on and gave me tips on what future service I might need. I'm new to Portland and this will definitely be my go to bike shop. Thank you!!!

It's been over ten years since I've ridden a bicycle and for some reason I got it in my head that bike commuting is the way to go instead of shelling out $40k or more for a new car. Might as well extend the life of the car I've got right?? Anyway... I worked with two sales associates who were both very helpful. They let me test ride the bike I was interested in as long as I wanted without hovering which was great. My skills on a bike are not up to par to say the least! I ended up going home with an eBike and I'm already loving it. Highly recommend.

After some less-than-stellar experiences at Portland bike shops where my kind of bike-riding isn't really catered to, I walked into Clever Cycles and went "Aaaaah!" This place feels just right. I ride every day to work and on errands. I don't race. I don't compete. I don't try to improve my time. I don't shower and change my clothes at the office, I just toodle along in street clothes at a non-sweaty pace. In short, riding a bike for me is purely transportation, and not in any way a sport. Clever Cycles understands this. They rented me a Workcycles Oma, spent at least half an hour making sure it was adjusted to fit me, and went to extraordinary lengths to insure that I had a great experience trying it out. They didn't bat an eye at my need for a more heavy-duty bike to suit my heavy-duty self. They told me frankly what the differences were between outwardly-similar bikes, and discussed with me why I might choose one over the other AFTER LISTENING TO ME about my intended use of the bike. The being-listened-to part of this story is the really extraordinary thing. So I'm going back with my tax refund to buy one of the fantastic-for-me Dutch bikes they sell. Yay Clever Cycles!

The person working behind the counter had a spare Linus fender in a different color, and offered that one in addition to a set of nice new Velo Orange fenders. I was already planning to just get a new set (and had my eye on Velo Orange), but I appreciated that they offered a cheaper option if I needed one, because there's definitely been times in my life I needed that! I've always gotten excellent customer service here, even when the shop is super busy.

I was set on a certain bike, but Sarah pushed and (basically convinced me) to go for a cargo Tern e-bike. Sarah listened to all my needs and recommended the best e-bike for me. Kevin helped me find the best lock for my bike, even took out the locks to show how they would work and fit on my bike. Appreciate all the help! Can't wait to keep on coming back and getting the best service for my bike.

I bought a very nice Brompton from Clever to bring on an extended trip to Hawaii. They were able to install upgrades on it to make it what I wanted in a very short time. I went to a local shop first, and they: were trying to give the hard sell, needed to order the reduction sprocket and other things which would take too long, and were playing the Red Hot Chili Peppers in their shop which is an absolute violation of good taste. The bike had to be shipped to me, and it showed up well packed and right on time. These folks take care of their customers, and that is appreciated! Their communication is excellent. Thanks Clever, you made this purchase easy and I’m very pleased.
