Frequently Asked Questions

Most P Line and T Line bikes have a 50T chainring and take the 102. A 54T chainring takes the 104. Single-speed bikes take the 102 with any ring. The tooth count is stamped on the chainring. Any other ring, or not sure? See the Brompton chain guide or email us a photo of your chainring.

Brompton only makes this chain in 102, 104 and 106 links, but some bikes need 98 or 100. Choose Shorten to fit my bike and tell us your length, and we'll remove the extra links from a 102 before it ships, so it goes straight on with the quick link. Leave it unshortened if you'd rather size it yourself or you're fitting it in our workshop.

Every bike with Brompton's 4-speed or 12-speed derailleur drivetrain: the P Line and T Line (including single-speed versions), the Electric P Line from 2023, and the C Line and Electric C Line from 2026. It's a narrow 10-speed chain made for Brompton by YBN.

No. Hub-geared A Line and C Line bikes (1, 2, 3 and 6-speed) use a wider 8-speed, 3/32-inch chain in 96, 98, 100 or 102 links. Use the Brompton chain guide to pick the right one for your chainring and sprocket.

Usually, yes. The 4- and 12-speed cassette sprockets wear with the chain, and a new chain on worn sprockets will skip under load. Replace the chain at 0.5% wear on a chain checker and the sprockets will last several chains; wait until it skips and you'll likely be replacing both.
