Folded, the eFold stands on both wheels in the trays of a hitch-mounted platform rack, frame pointing up, with the rack arm clamping the frame, exactly as in the gallery photo. That is the same style of rack most American cars already carry, so a full-size cargo bike goes to the trailhead, the beach or the in-laws without a trailer or a pickup. Two things to check: use a platform rack rated for e-bikes, since this is a heavy bike, and take the Bosch battery off and put it inside the car before you load. Bring your rack by the shop and we will show you the fold and the fit on your own vehicle.

Under 15 seconds, no tools. You unlock the hinge under the cargo bed, fold the front over the platform until it locks, and you are done. The battery, cargo module and accessories stay on the bike. Unfolding is the same two moves in reverse and there is nothing to re-tension or adjust afterwards, because the belt drive and wireless shifter live entirely on the rear section.

No. The eFold is rated for 200 kg (440 lb) total, the same as the rigid cargo bikes we sell. The frame, fork, folding mechanism, folding steering unit and cable steering are all EFBE Tri-Test certified, and the bike is built to DIN 79010:2020, the German cargo-bike standard. In practice the hinge sits under the cargo bed and you forget it is there.

Plan on 30 to 50 miles with cargo on the Bosch PowerPack 545 Wh battery. Portland hills, a heavy load and Turbo mode push you toward the low end; flat routes in Eco mode push you past it. A full charge from the standard charger takes about 4 to 5 hours, and the battery is Bosch Smart System compatible, so a second battery or a bigger one is an option later.

The 3X3 NINE is a 9-speed internal gear hub with a 554% range and even 24% steps between gears, built to take the 250 Nm that a Bosch Cargo Line motor and a strong rider can put through it. Because the gears are sealed inside the hub, you can shift while stopped at a light with a full load, there is no derailleur to bend, and it pairs with a Gates carbon belt instead of a chain. The E.TR CMD trigger shifter is wireless, which is part of what lets the bike fold without cables to fuss with.

FOLD offers the eFold with either Bosch Cargo Line Gen 5 or Shimano EP6 Cargo. This listing is the Bosch build with the 3X3 NINE hub, which is the configuration we recommend for Portland hills and heavy loads. The eFold uses a modular cargo platform, so the front can be set up as an open bed, a box or a passenger module, and modules can be swapped later as your needs change. We show the bike, the import fees and tariffs, and the import freight as separate lines because they are separate costs, and two of them are outside anyone's control. The bike is $7,999. Import fees and tariffs on it are currently $1,200. Getting it from Germany to Portland is $1,000. Together that is $10,199 for the bike, with the battery sold separately. We import the eFold in limited quantities, and if import costs change before your batch clears customs, that line changes with it, up or down. Before your order is placed we confirm the exact price in writing, battery included. That number does not change after you approve it, and nothing is charged before then. Less than a chain-driven cargo bike. The Gates belt needs no lube and the 3X3 NINE hub is sealed, so routine care is tire pressure, brake pads and an occasional check of the fold latches. We service Bosch systems in-house, update the firmware, and can diagnose the drive unit over Bosch's dealer tools. Bring it in once a year and we will go through the hinge, steering and brakes.
