A Hand-Pulled Linocut for the Slow Mondays
"Monday" is one of Shang Daili's most-recognized cat prints — a hand-carved linocut of a cat holding a coffee mug with a small rain cloud parked directly over its head. There's no caption needed; the picture does the work. It's a print for desks, kitchens, studios, hallways near coffee makers, and anywhere a small piece of art can do its quiet job of letting a person know they're not alone in feeling like the week hasn't started in their favor yet.
The print is made the slow way. The image is hand-carved into a linoleum block, hand-inked, and pressed one sheet at a time onto 300 gsm acid-free cotton paper. The inks are solvent-free printmaking inks made from linseed oil and lightfast pigments — the same traditional materials used in fine-art relief printing. Each sheet has hand-torn (deckle-style) edges on all four sides, so the print looks finished as-is in any standard 8 × 10 frame, or framed in black wood with museum glass through the framed option for a gift-ready piece.
