Description
A Handmade Linocut Print for Cyclists Who Appreciate the Finer Things
Salted Watermelon is part of Shang Daili's ongoing series of cycling-themed linocuts — each one a small, joyful nod to the rituals and rewards of riding. The image depicts a row of cyclists riding atop a watermelon, hand-carved from a linoleum block and pulled one sheet at a time in her California studio. Because every print is pressed by hand, no two are exactly alike — subtle shifts in ink coverage, impression depth, and registration are inherent to the medium and part of what makes each piece its own original.
Printed with oil-based archival ink on 300gsm acid-free cotton paper, the same heavyweight stock used in fine art and museum contexts, the print carries a soft, tactile bite from the carved block that no digital reproduction can replicate.
Original Art, Not a Reproduction
- Hand-carved linoleum block, hand-inked and hand-pulled — original relief printing, not a giclée or digital copy.
- Oil-based archival ink for fade-resistant, long-lasting color.
- Printed on 300gsm acid-free cotton paper — the same archival-grade stock used for gallery and museum work.
- Each print is unique: small variations in ink and impression are a natural, valued part of the handmade process.
- Part of Shang Daili's cycling print series, alongside Coffee and Col, Ride to Ramen, Sprinted Away, and others.
