Hand-Pulled Linocut, Limited Edition of Only 25
"Spark Match Box" is one of Shang Daili's smaller-edition cycling linocuts — limited to just 25 hand-pulled prints, numbered and signed, with no plans for a reprint. Each one is carved by hand from a linoleum block, inked with an oil-based archival ink, and pressed one sheet at a time in her California studio. Because the print is hand-pulled rather than mass-reproduced, no two impressions are exactly alike: subtle variations in ink coverage, registration, and pressure are part of what separates a hand-carved relief print from a digital reproduction.
The image is printed nearly edge to edge on the sheet — a 7.4" × 9.4" print area on 8" × 10" paper, which gives it a much fuller, poster-like presence than the smaller-image prints in this series. The paper is 300 gsm acid-free cotton, the same archival-grade fine art stock used for gallery and museum work, and the deep impression of the hand-carved block leaves a soft, tactile bite in the surface that's worth seeing in person.
Small Edition, Hand-Carved, Hand-Pulled
- Hand-carved linoleum block, hand-inked and hand-pulled — original artwork, not a digital giclée reproduction.
- Large 7.4" × 9.4" print area on an 8" × 10" sheet — nearly full bleed, with a stronger visual presence than the typical 6" × 8" image area in this series.
- Printed on 300 gsm acid-free cotton paper — heavyweight, archival fine art stock with a soft, tactile surface.
- Oil-based archival ink for fade-resistant, long-lasting color.
- Each print is unique: small variations in ink coverage and registration are inherent to hand-pulled relief printing.
- Sits alongside the rest of Shang Daili's cycling print series — Coffee and Col, Ride to Ramen, Sprinted Away, Salted Watermelon, and others.
