The Surly Big Dummy is a single-piece longtail cargo bike designed to replace a car for families, small business owners, and anyone who hauls. Since 2008, owners have used Big Dummy for everyday errands, moving goods, hauling passengers, and minimizing their carbon footprint. With a 400-pound combined rider and cargo weight limit, there's no practical upper bound on what you can carry—as long as it fits on the deck and within the load capacity.
A dedicated chromoly steel frame with single-piece construction increases stiffness while maintaining maneuverability, even under load. The bike accepts Dummy Rail Collars for human cargo compatibility, has full fender and cargo mount compatibility, and runs a proven 1x9 drivetrain with mechanical disc brakes for reliable stopping power across varying loads. Included Dummy Deck, Dummy Rails, collars, and Big Dummy Bags Version 2.0 transform the platform into a turnkey hauling system.

- 100% Surly chromoly steel with Natch tubing, double-butted main triangle, TIG welded for strength and reliability.
- Dedicated chromoly fork with double-butted tapered blades and E.D. coating for rust protection.
- Full fender eyelets and Surly Trip Guides for continuous brake and shift housing or hydraulic brake lines.
- Multiple bottle and cargo cage mounts: two standard and one 3-pack mount on Small; three standard and one 3-pack on Medium and Large; four 3-pack fork mounts.
- Vertical 135mm spaced dropouts with Rohloff compatibility for future drivetrain flexibility.
- Clearance for 26" x 2.5" tires with fenders, with no limitation on chainring sizes for customization.
- Human cargo compatible using Dummy Rail Collars for passenger capacity.
- Includes Dummy Deck, Dummy Rails, two Dummy Rail Collars, and Big Dummy Bags Version 2.0 for immediate use.
